The Wallpaper of My Dreams

I am obsessed with the wallpaper that I am currently hanging in my hallway! I'm not lying to you when I say that looking at this wallpaper gives me a physical feeling of joy! It feels like my heart is doing cartwheels inside of my chest! This wallpaper is pure happiness to me and I couldn't love it more.

So here's the story: I visited my cousin in the fall and she had just hung the most show stopping, jaw dropping wallpaper in a little nook in her house. I mean, this girl took a small space in her home and she elevated the crap out of it! She made a forgettable few feet look like a million bucks! (see below, for my cousin's amazing wallpaper)

I was standing there in awe of the upgrade and I decided that wallpaper was just what my own "ho-hum", purely functional hallway needed. I got online and eventually I found the one. It was love at first sight. I immediately ordered a sample and taped it to my wall. I loved it even more in person... but there was one problem.

It doesn't flow with the rest of my house! It's so important to think about flow when you're decorating your space. You want to look at your entire home as one art piece - a series of spaces linked together. It's important that a common style and theme runs throughout. This is not to say that all design elements should be the same! Certainly not, that would feel boring! But they should work together and complement each other. Since taking on these renovations, everything I've done has fallen into a moody, eclectic, boho vibe. This wallpaper is light and airy and girly and pretty. These are not words I would use to describe my style (except for the word "pretty"... obviously 😉).

I walked past this wallpaper sample taped to my wall everyday for months feeling torn - do I scrap it and figure out a plan for the hallway that can match my moody, eclectic decor? Or do I follow my heart and just do whatever the heck I want? I just didn't know what to do... until it hit me. If I painted the wood paneling that covers the bottom half of the walls a dark moody color, this will tie in my gorgeous wallpaper that I've fallen so madly in love with!

So that's what I have done! I'm getting to have my cake and eat it too! I love when that happens. I'm not quite finished with it yet. In fact, I've only just begun the process of hanging said paper. It's been quite the learning experience considering I've never done anything like this before. If this is new to you too, be warned, it's messy... and sticky. But I am always up for a challenge! And let's be honest, I'll do just about anything in the name of creating a home for myself.
